The Advantages of CPVC Piping

At Aztec Plumbing, we do repipes on a daily basis. And even though we make it as worry free as possible for the customer, we understand that people are concerned about how the job is done. When we invite a contractor into our home, especially to do an extensive job (such as repiping), we want to make sure it’s done right. So when we receive phone calls in the office asking exactly what the process entails, we do our best to answer any questions you may have.

One of the most common inquiries is what type of piping we install. That’s a concern for many people because they’re home most likely had defective piping in the first place which is why they now need a repipe. We realize that it’s a project you want to do only once in your lifetime. That’s why we’ve done research over the years to find out what holds up best in Southwest Florida.

We’ve found that many people come from northern parts of the country and are more comfortable or more familiar with copper piping. Unfortunately, copper starts to corrode and leak due to the chlorine, sulfur, and reverse osmosis systems used in Southwest Florida’s water.

Many people have polybutylene in their home as well which was most likely installed at some point between 1978 and 1995. It’s a material that was thought to be the “pipe of the future,” but turned out to be a disaster just waiting to happen. After 10-20 years of use it flakes, breaks, and deteriorates. Many people now see it as a “ticking time bomb” that can and will cause extensive water damage if left alone.

At Aztec Plumbing, we use CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) piping because it’s resistant to the chemicals used in our water. It has a smooth, friction free inner bore which results in a high flow rate and less of an opportunity for bacteria to grow. It almost completely eliminates scale build-up and does not rust, pit, or scale. It’s non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and comes with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty!
