Question: Do I need to repipe my home or business?
Repipng Bad Pipe
Before Repiping Service
After Repiping Service

Answer: There are a number of factors and conditions that will determine your need for repiping. We'll address the most common concerns here. Many of our local home and business owners come from parts of the country where copper is the most common water piping material and it "lasts forever", unfortunately that is not the case in Southwest Florida. Currently those areas that receive water from reverse osmosis plants such as Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Pine Island, Captiva and Sanibel experience the greatest need for repiping. Areas where the water supply is treated with chlorine to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water also see a need to replace the existing copper water lines. Private wells with high levels of sulfur or that are treated in the manners above are also concerns.

Additionally, many homes and businesses in our area were piped with polybutlyene. You may have heard it referred to as Quest piping. The pipe is a grey plastic and can have either plastic or metal fittings that are crimped onto the pipe. Serious issues that occur with this type of piping have resulted in a class action lawsuit. You can find extensive information regarding polybutlyene at:
www.pbpipe.com.

Most of the time a visible leak or visible damage is the first sign that repiping may be necessary. However in many cases a high water bill will be the only way a customer realizes that they have a leak. The corrosion and "green spots" common to copper piping that often indicate the need for repiping are not always visible. Repairing a leak will put additional pressure on other weak spots in your piping and should not be considered a permanent solution.

If you have any questions or concerns that we have not addressed with regard to your specific situation please call us for additional information.

Question: What is a repipe?

Answer: A repipe or whole house repipe or repiping as it is sometimes known is the replacement of all existing water lines with clean, safe CPVC. New hot and cold water lines are run overhead and down walls and connected to your existing plumbing fixtures. Shut off valves are replaced with ¼ turn, easy on and easy off, valves. Fixture supplies and washing machine hose are replaced with braided stainless steel supplies and hoses. Even the icemaker and dishwasher lines are replaced. At the end of the process all the pressurized water lines form you main shut off valve forward are replaced with CPVC pipe and fittings. CPVC is a material that is resistant to the effects that our water has on copper. It will deliver a lifetime of safe and clean water to your home.Amazingly this process takes just one day. Most homes will have the water back on permanently at the end of the day! The following day consists of a city plumbing inspection, an inspection by one of Aztec's service technicians to ensure that we've met your expectations and we will complete the drywall repair. Unfortunately we will need to open small holes in the existing drywall to complete the repiping. Fortunately we have an amazing sheetrock subcontractor who will repair the holes, match the existing texture and leave it ready to be painted.
